چکیده

by rat liver preparations is shown in Scheme 1, and is similar to that proposed by Jerina et al. (1968) for the metabolism of naphthalene. In both cases the action of the epoxide hydratase leads to the production of the trans-diol only. The occurrence of ris-indane-f,2-diol in addition to the trans-diol as a metabolite of indene in the rat (Brooks &Young, 1956) could be explained by the metabolic conversion of the trans-diol into the cis-form. Such an interconversion could proceed through the intermediate hydroxy ketone, as proposed by Lewis (1966,1970).

Simultaneous Pathoproteomic Evaluation of the Dystrophin-Glycoprotein Complex and Secondary Changes in the mdx-4cv Mouse Model of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

In skeletal muscle, the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex forms a membrane-associated assembly of relatively low abundance, making its detailed proteomic characterization in normal versus dystrophic tissues technically challenging. To overcome this analytical problem, we have enriched the muscle membrane fraction by a minimal differential centrifugation step followed by the comprehensive label-fr...

Comparative Ultrastructure and Calcium Transport in Heart and Skeletal Muscle Microsomes

A number of previous investigations have provided measurements of calcium uptake in microsomal fractions from mammalian skeletal and heart muscle (1-7) . On a comparative basis, there are strong indications that the amount and rate of calcium uptake are substantially lower in the heart preparations. The relatively low values of calcium uptake rates in isolated cardiac "reticulum" have been disc...

Subfractionation of Rabbit Skeletal-Muscle Microsomal Fraction

In rabbit skeletal muscle a well-defined and highly organized system of internal membranes exists. These were first described by Retzius (1881) and Veratti (1902), subsequently overlooked and later rediscovered by Porter & Palade (1957) and Andersson-Cedergren (1959) and others. The skeletal-muscle cell is composed of three main structural components. These are, first, the myofibrils or contrac...

Skeletal muscle and liver contain a soluble ATP + ubiquitin-dependent proteolytic system.

Although protein breakdown in most cells seems to require metabolic energy, it has only been possible to establish a soluble ATP-dependent proteolytic system in extracts of reticulocytes and erythroleukemia cells. We have now succeeded in demonstrating in soluble extracts and more purified preparations from rabbit skeletal muscle a 12-fold stimulation by ATP of breakdown of endogenous proteins ...

Choline biosynthesis in sheep. Evidence for extrahepatic synthesis.

1. Choline production by various tissues of the sheep was measured by determining venous and arterial free choline concentrations in blood samples taken from various vessels in conscious multicannulated sheep. 2. Significant production of free choline occurred in the upper and lower body regions, and specifically in the heart, brain and hind-limb muscles of sheep, but there was no significant u...
